Chris Springs has led the women’s basketball program at Hillsborough College (HC) since the 2016–2017 season, bringing over 24 years of coaching experience across college, high school, and elite AAU levels. Known for his commitment to player development, strategic leadership, and mentorship, Chris has built a culture defined by effort, accountability, and competitive excellence.

Under his guidance, HC has made four appearances in the NJCAA Region 8 State Tournament, establishing itself as a rising force in Florida women’s basketball. His tenure has produced:

• 11 First Team All-Conference selections

• 17 Second Team All-Conference honorees

• 1 Conference Player of the Year

• 1 Honorable Mention All-American

• Jazmine Spencer, who led the nation in scoring, averaging 25 points per game

• 2 players named to the FCSAA Division I All-Tournament Team, including Masiel Reyes, who earned the honor in both her freshman and sophomore seasons

• Reyes also became the first player in program history to surpass 1,000 career points, finishing with 1,126 points—the highest total ever recorded at HC

Chris’s coaching journey began after being recruited by Press Maravich (father of basketball legend Pistol Pete) to play for Division I Campbell University in North Carolina. He earned his B.S. in Sports/Fitness Administration and launched his coaching career as an assistant men’s basketball coach at Division II Shippensburg University, followed by impactful roles at Saint Leo University and Webber International University, where he helped lead the team to its first Sun Conference championship and an NAIA National Tournament berth.

One of the most meaningful chapters in Chris’s career came during his time at Saint Leo University, where he had the opportunity to coach his daughter, Chelsy, during her junior year after she transferred from Daytona State College. That season, Chelsy made an immediate impact and was named Newcomer of the Year, showcasing her talent, leadership, and drive—qualities that continue to inspire Chris both personally and professionally.

Beyond the court, Chris is deeply invested in the growth of HC and its student-athletes. He is married to Michelle, and together they celebrate the achievements of Chelsy, who recently graduated from Florida Southern College, earning her Nurse Practitioner degree. Chris is also a proud grandfather to Jules.
